December Scrapping Ideas #2

If you're doing a December Daily, we've got more suggestions for you today! Today we're caroling away. Here we go...

  1. jingle bells. jingle bells can found in so many places! on horses aka sleigh bells. i seriously have a pair of christmas socks with jingle bells. we have tons of decorations we hang in our house that are made form jingle bells. i have a teeny tiny itty bitty thing for jingle bells.
  2. let it snow. can't find the real thing? no sweat. find someone who has a little village and the cotton batting all over. or you could get a bag of snow from hobby lobby and go outside (that's important!) and throw it at each other for some fun. why outside? no sweeping necessary!
  3. 12 days of christmas. ok so there's 12 things here! way to knock out half the month! you may not be able to find a partridge, but how about shopping for the turkey or cornish game hen for christmas dinner? 2 turtle doves. i'd be sneaky with this one and take some pics of turtles at a pet shop. 3 french hens....chicken dinner this month? 4 calling birds....what the heck is a calling bird? make a sign and have a family member hold it up. 5 golden rings would be awesome for this! both sets... 6 geese a could stalk some canadian geese nearby or if you're lucky like me the snow geese will be here soon. if you have a goose for christmas dinner or someone is in a christmas carol, this would be pretty jazzy. 7 swans a swimming...well in the spring we have swans here. i live in a huge area for birds who migrate. swan ornaments? plastic swans floating in the town pond? 8 maids a milking....get creative with this one. i know most of us don't have access to a milking parlor at a farm, but if you do go have some fun! do you make ice cream? make whipped cream? wow that sounds so good right now....have an ice cream treat this month and photograph it...pop on 8 ice cream cone stickers and call it done. hehehe. 9 ladies dancing....go have a ladies night out...or dance with your daughter/mom/sister/aunt/grandma. 10 lords a leaping...i can only imagine how much fun little boys would have if you told them to jump as much as they want. 11 pipers piping.....go to a concert. 12 drummers drumming....go to another concert...parade...
  4. boughs of holly. make sure you take tons of photos of your home decorated. i like doing this twice. once when everything is lit up and once with the lights all unplugged. why? side by side, the difference is usually pretty neat.
  5. dashing through the snow. go sledding!
  6. walking in a winter wonderland. go snowshoeing or cross country skiing or just go for a walk during a snowfall or right after. i love snow photos because they're so bright. they seem so happy.
  7. 'twas the night before christmas. take photos of your children reading or on christmas eve when they open that one present that's a teaser.
  8. deck the halls. go tour a historic home that's decorated for the holidays.
  9. god rest ye merry gentlemen. children love staying up late to wait for santa and then there's christmas night when many of us stay up too late because we're enjoying all of of new treasures. photos of the kids in crazy positions because they fell asleep is just darn cute!
  10. joy to the world. find something that brings you joy. your morning cup of coffee. a puppy or kitten. your children. your significant other. your grandparents. your car. your mailman. the coca~cola delivery guy at your grocery store. or cheerwine if you're obsessed with it like me...for those who don't know...cheerwine is not wine or any type of alcohol. it's this amazing wild cherry soda made in north carolina. you can find it at cracker barrel.
  11. o christmas tree. decorate that tree baby! don't forget to take photos along the way while reminiscing about the ornaments. make sure to snag one of the tree topper going on!
  12. o holy night. now if you're religious, there's only about a million things that work for this. but i wasn't going there. i was thinking about photos taken at night...outside would be awesome. a flash may or may not be needed. some of my favorite photos are dark and full of shadows because they're outside and it's evening.
  13. little drummer boy. my brother loooooooved this song when he was little. he would beg to hear it all christmas long. he would listen to it over and over and over. my grandmother still has his ornament of the little drummer boy. take some photos of your brother. if you don't have a brother, grab your dad, grandfather, husband/boyfriend, uncle, etc. a male relative i guess is what i'm trying to say.
  14. frosty the snowman. go build a snowman with the kids and bring your camera. make sure they get pics of you in the snow as well.
  15. silver bells. find a family heirloom to take a treasured photo of....hint hint....grandparents and parents are lovely and they've probably already made it to their silver anniversary.
  16. rockin' around the christmas tree. sing and dance with the kids/family while listening to your favorite christmas songs.
  17. carol of the bells. do the kids go caroling? have a school concert? a christmas pageant at church? make sure you snap away at those events!
  18. away in a manger. take a photo of your nativity scene, your town's live nativity, or your church's nativity.
  19. silent night. take some family photos while everyone is quiet while watching tv, studying, playing, etc. sneak up and get some great shots that no one knows about.
Come back tomorrow when we talk color and texture. Sounds fun!

December Scrapping Ideas #1

December is a crazy month for so many of us. There's so much to do and so many places to go. Photos are key to keeping those memories we've made during our craziest busy moments. A photo checklist can be super handy! It also gives you ideas of what moments to capture forever.

Our list is going to take a few days. Instead of giving you 25+ ideas at one time, we're going to give you 10-12 each day so you have time to think about what you'd really like to cherish and what moments you will have to opportunity to photograph this month.

  1. Choosing the tree or setting the tree up. This depends on if you go out to the woods and cut down your tree, purchase a tree at a farmstand, or take your tree out of your attic or basement and stand it up.
  2. Decorating the tree. Don't forget to take photos of putting the lights on the tree and sorting them out if you don't have a pre-lit tree. Many giggles can be had while sorting the lights out.
  3. Visiting Santa. A trip to the mall, local American Legion, Bass Pro Shop, parade, wherever you see Santa. Don't forget to take one of Santa by himself without your children.
  4. Reindeer. Now this one may be a bit tricky, but they don't have to be real live reindeer. The light up ones in someone's front yard work perfectly as well.
  5. Elves. If you do Elf on the Shelf, you have over 3 weeks worth of photo ops! If not, look for an elf at the mall, Toys R Us, anywhere!
  6. Caroling. Even if you don't walk around the neighborhood singing, make sure you have photos of your loved ones singing at home, at church, at a school concert.
  7. Baking. Whether you bake cookies from scratch or open up a tube of Pillsbury cookies, have some fun and be a little crazy.
  8. Shopping. Online shopping isn't as fun as shopping at the mall with a group of friends, but live on the edge.
  9. Decorating your home. Inside and out.
  10. Wrapping presents. Get crafty with some paper and bows.
That should get you started! Come back tomorrow more ideas.

Info About Living Life

Inky Hot Mess now designs all of our journal cards, veneers, and flair in house. We have our own suppliers and craftsman now! One of Creative Team members has also begun designing for us. She will be creating Silhouette cutting files that are exclusive to Inky Hot Mess and coordinate with our Living Life.

Here's some info about our new journal cards......

Each card is designed by Inky Hot Mess and is exclusive to us.

Our cards are locally printed. They are not outsourced and printed overseas.

The cards digitally printed so the colors are vibrant. They will not fade.

Our cardstock is thick! We print on 80# cardstock weight. They are heavy duty!

About our flair....

All of our flair are designed by Inky Hot Mess and are exclusive.

They are printed locally as well. They, too, are digitally printed so the colors are vibrant.

We hand cut each one. We hand assemble each piece.

The steel and mylar used to make our flair are all Made in the USA!

Our wood veneers, corks, and acrylics...

All of these embellishments are designed by Inky Hot Mess and are exclusive.

These are all cut by a craftsman in California for us so they are Made in the USA!

Now you know a little more about our products!

Future Releases

We have been very quiet this month. We sincerely apologize for our quiet. Our fearless leader has been very ill not once, but twice. She did get to go on a fabulous retreat that she has been looking froward to. She was sick before it and after it. She's still recuperating, but back to work. And she's working like crazy.

So here is where we are.....

On Tuesday, we will be releasing Autumn Harvest and Happy Haunting Living Life Kits. Yes, they are very late, but guess what autumn and Halloween come every year. And many people still have to scrap them from this year and previous years. We are super excited about these kits because they are the first 100% designed in house. They were also locally printed. We had several issues with our printer that took a few week sot work out, but we have everything worked out and know what to expect in the future.

Both kits contain exclusive 3x4 and 4x6 cards that we designed, flair we designed, and wood veneers we designed. None of those items will be for sale anywhere else! We have lots of add ons as well including several mixed media items.

We also have an autumn Paper Crafting Kit we will be releasing on Tuesday as well. This kit will be our last scrapbooking focused kit for a little bit. We have some projects coming in the next few months. The Paper Crafting Kit contents will always vary.

We have a new item as well. Candace, from our Creative Team, has begun designing for us. She has created digital cutting files that coordinate with Autumn Harvest and Happy Haunting. The files are designed for Silhouette lovers!

We have a lot coming for December! We will be releasing our Grace & Gratitude Living Life Kit first. We will also be releasing our Gratitude Journal at the same time. The Gratitude Journal was offered locally as a workshop and now we are bringing it to everyone in America! There will also be a video for it.

We have more for December! We will have 3 Living Life Kits! Yes, THREE! Our kits are going under a little remodel. We are decreasing the price significantly. To reduce the price, we are reducing the number of embellishments in the kits. The bulk of the embellishments are made by other companies and are made overseas. We are really trying to stick to Made in the USA as much as possible.

The three Living Life Kits each have a different theme. There is a Christmas kit, a New Year kit, and a winter/snow kit. Each kit will contain our exclusive journal cards, flair, and veneers. We may be expanding our embellishments into corks and acrylics, but you didn't hear that from me!

The Paper Crafting Kit is the Family Memory Box. We offered this as a local workshop and now it's available to everyone! We will have a video for this as well.

There's lots coming in January as well! More embellishments exclusive to Inky Hot Mess! We are working hard behind the scenes and have lots up our sleeves.

Autumn Harvest & Happy Haunting

As you've probably noticed, we did not release Autumn Harvest or Happy Haunting today. Inky is not a happy camper right now at all. We have been in contact with our printer and they are having some issues. If they can't get the issues resolved by the end of the week, we will be going to a new printer. We are terribly sorry for this delay. There are some very upset people in the studio today. Please bear with us as we work through this. We know once we get all of the issues resolved that these kits are fantastic and you will need them! :)

Website Update

So far it appears that everything has moved over and is linked properly.....We're still checking on everything from multiple computers to make sure everyone sees what we are seeing.

If you find any links not working, please contact us! If something isn't loading for you, please contact us! Every category and page has something on it. Nothing should be blank. And they all should load.

On Tuesday, we will release Autumn Harvest and Happy Haunting. We have a surprise with them as well! There's a brand new product for us. Those who love die cutting may be happy. That is all I am going to say about it for now.

So on Monday, come back here for the sneak peeks to Autumn Harvest and Happy Haunting Living Life Kits!!! Oh and we will have 2 new Paper Crafting Kits! We will be releasing the Family Memory Box and Gratitude Journal kits. They both are being offered as workshops to those local to Inky Hot Mess.

Website Changes

Well, we are ready to move our website! We finished uploading all of the current products and pages today. We didn't think we would get it all done before the weekend. Somebody worked really late last night and all day to make this happen....and by late we mean until after 1 am. That Inky girl is a bit crazy! We love her anyway.

So tonight we will be working on moving the site. If it goes down, you now know why! Once we are moved and know everything is stable and working properly, we will be releasing Autumn Harvest and Happy Haunting. We are waiting until everything is up and running because we don't want to have disappointed customers.....Inky doesn't want to pull all of her hair out either.

Wish us luck! Hopefully, this will be easy and everything will go smoothly.....We will post again when we know everything has moved and is up and running. Cross your fingers, toes, eyes, carrots, whatever you have handy! And we're we go........

New Website

So behind the scenes has been crazy busy here at Inky Hot Mess. We've been working on a new website! The new site will have our shopping cart on the same site as the website. This is a huge change for us and we are soooo happy with the results.

We have been working very hard behind the scenes to make sure every single item is moved to the new site and the correct info is listed. We have been able to add many more photos to the listings for the items we sell as well.

There's a teeny, tiny change that we hope you'll enjoy. Shipping is changing! Now, don't get worried. Shipping is actually decreasing. We will be dropping our shipping to $6.50 for orders under $100! As always, orders over $100 will receive free shipping. This change will not happen until we are moved to the new site and it is live.

When will we go live with the new site? I honestly, wish we had a definite answer. We do not have a date yet. We do know it will be next week! We are still tweaking things here and there, but it is coming along. And we are thrilled with the results! We hope you will enjoy the new site as much as we do!

Oh and our blog will not be moving. However, we will be adding links to our new site as we post on the blog. We have added and Event Calendar as well. All of our Social Media links are on one page! We are adding an email list as well. Lots of new things!

Here's a sneak peek....

PS I had my final meeting with our new printer this week. And I am happy to say that Autumn Harvest and Happy Haunting will be released early next week! Grace & Gratitude are coming soon! Oops...was that too many hints?

creative team intros: shyra

today is our last creative into. the last lady has been a scrapbooker for over 13 years and is a full time artist. she also happens to be our creative director. when she's not playing with paper (which isn't often), she can be found looking for a new quilt shop to explore and taking in the local (and no so local) sights.

you've already seen some of her work and there's plenty more to come. be sure to visit her blog @

here's a little bit about shyra:

she resides in a place that is home to the 11 finger york.

in her words:

"I’m all about capturing the moment. Whether it’s a nephew’s first time picking pumpkins or a sister-in-law graduating from college, there can never be enough photos. The problem with all of our digital photos is that they spend their lifetime stuck on a computer or phone or tablet. The second problem is that those machines frequently die and cost us small fortunes to retrieve them if they are retrievable. Get them printed! Get them backed up! You and your family will be so happy that you did! And that nephew will look back at photos of him picking pumpkins and be amazed at how small he is."

what does she have to say about her style:
"A little crazy. On the wild side. I like to keep moving. I want to cruise through my albums."

her favorite color:

deep violet

subject she spends her time scrapbooking:

"Nature. I live in an area that is absolutely stunning – 11 lakes, numerous states parks, historic sites everywhere you turn. And then there’s my puppies!"

"When I get stuck or have an idea, but no clue on where to go with it, I check Pinterest first. And if that fails, I head over to my favorite blogs."

dream vacation:

"Hmm…well the NASCAR girl in me says the 2 week beginning of the season that ends with the Daytona 500 and of course Tony Stewart would win. And the second half of the trip would be to Talladega and that 14 car would win again. And if that’s not possible there’s always my dream trip to Ireland to check out a few castles."

favorite product:

"I have to pick just one? My Tiny Attacher from Tim Holtz."

favorite holiday:

"Christmas! I’m so crazy about Christmas that I spend a few days baking cookies the week before Christmas and have a house full of people the weekend of Christmas. Should I mention there’s at least 6 decorated trees in our home at Christmas?"

favorite element of scrapbooking:

"I love mixed media! I have a thing for creating my own journaling cards or jazzing up ones I’ve purchased in kits."

if you could have any scrapbook item - no matter the cost - what would it be?

"OK so this is a big….HUGE item…my own building. My own building so I could have all of my paper crafting and fabric in one space where I could have large classes, crops, and retreats."

who is your scrapbook industry crush?

"Those who are my closest scrapbooking buds often refer to Tim Holtz as my second husband…..shhhh he doesn’t know this little bit of info. Teresa Collins is a love! I met her a few years ago and she is such a wonderful person. I would love to spend a day with her."

something crazy fun about you:

"When I’m not causing havoc in the Finger Lakes, I’m up in the Adirondacks hanging out on a lake or down in North Carolina checking out a NASCAR race. Oh and I have a teeny tiny thing for that singer/guitar guy named David Cook."

"This is me.  I am a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter and a friend.  My days are filled with cleaning dishes, driving kids to practice, kissing boo boos, singing nursery songs, calling a friend, folding mounds of  laundry, cleaning the dishes AGAIN, washing tushies and toes, tucking little ones in bed, and then doing it all again.  But in the crazy, in the busy, in the sometimes unbearably frustrating there is everyday perfection.  Moments where time seems to stop, you take a picture in your mind, and promise yourself you will never forget. Everyday perfection.  It is my hope that I can inspire others to notice those moments of everyday perfection and capture them."

what does she have to say about her style:
"I like layers but I like it to still feel clean….make sense?  Kinda like organized chaos. "

her favorite color:

subject she spends her time scrapbooking:
"I most like to capture the everyday moments.  I love that my cell phone is always at arms reach so I can snap a quick picture.  Just the other day I finished feeding my baby and as he was falling asleep in my arms he started making little sounds that sounded like a little song.  My heart melted and I snapped a quick picture so I would not forget the moment."

"Whenever I need to get my creative juices flowing I will go to youTube, Pinterest or go to some blogs of other crafty women that inspire me."

dream vacation:
"At this point in my life I am going to say any vacation that is kid free.  (Love em, but lets be real…)"

favorite product:
"This is like choosing a favorite child…I can’t choose just one, I love them all!"

favorite holiday:
"I am going to have to go cliche on this one and say Christmas.  It is the smells, the colors, the lights, the songs and spending time with family.  (Halloween is a close second, so fun to dress up and it just so happens to be my birthday!)"

favorite element of scrapbooking:
"I think for a long time it has just been about the story to me, scrapbooking the story.  In recent years however, so many amazing products have come out that help anyone create works of art in their own home.  I have really fallen in love with mixed media and stamping because in the last few years they have come so far!"

if you could have any scrapbook item - no matter the cost - what would it be?
"I would have to say a good collection of copic markers.  Yummy!"

who is your scrapbook industry crush?
"Cards and mixed media techniques, Jennifer McGuire…AMAZING!  Pocket page scrapbooking Stephanie Bryan, clean and simple.  Traditional layouts Nichol Magourik, lots of die cutting and stepping outside the box or Wilna Furstenberg, mixed media.. AMAZING!"

something crazy fun about you:
"When I am not chasing kids or scrapbooking I teach aerobic classes at a bunch of local gyms in phoenix.  Also, if I could have any job in the world I would be on Broadway.  I don’t sing or dance but I can’t imagine a more fun, and exciting job than doing just that in front of thousands of people!"
