A close up of the journaling card we used on the cover along with a geotag wood chip with Ferro and one of the expressions on the kraft tape.

This tag started off life as a plain old kraft tag. We jazzed it up with a mixed media iridescent glaze and some alpha stickers. Your word may vary. This is my word for the year.

The mixed media artist has struck again! The Ferro and Silks glaze are used on the cloud and sun.

The inside of the cover. You get your choice of journaling cards, kraft tape, and stickers for the inside.

We start you off on your first page of your new journal. The Ferro and Silks are once again used on this page.

Picnic @ Seneca Lake

Picnic @ Seneca Lake is the window display this month. Every month our window display will change. I love the old window displays you'd see in the department stores in Manhattan from way back when. Kind of like when you'd watch Miracle on 34th Street. When I was little, I always thought the stores in that movie were so glamorous. So they are my inspiration for our store windows. Each month the window will change and be something completely new.....some months there will be lots and lots of paper crafting going on and on. Someone around here does love paper....not naming anyone....cough cough... me.

With it being summertime here in the Finger Lakes, I looked to our lakes for inspiration this month. I love going to our lakes. We have an Empire Pass so we get into almost every New York State Park for free. We find having the pass makes us actually go to the parks more. There's no shortage of state parks here in the Finger Lakes.

Geneva sits at the head of Seneca Lake. There is a gorgeous park the City of Geneva owns. It features a historic long pier which used to be the home of a metal lighthouse, an ice cream stand, the Ramada Inn on the lake, boating docks, a gazebo, bike path, Disc Golf, and steps into the lake.

The Seneca Lake State Park offers pavilions, grills and picnic tables, marina, boat launch, snack stand and ice cream stand, a splash park, walking trails, and swimming. Did I mention the view? You never know when you'll see a family of ducks, Canadian geese, Blue Heron, all sorts of fish. When you drive in between the two parks, you will frequently see numerous groundhogs in the grassy areas.

Seneca Lake State Park is the park we frequent the most.....might have something to do with living 5 minutes away... Yes, we very fortunate to live here. I think about that almost every day. Even on days when the weather is not spectacular....I just remind myself that I could be back in South Carolina where we were in a major draught and it was over 100 degrees for weeks on end in the summer.....Even in the middle of February when it's 5 degrees out and six more inches of snow has fallen, I remind myself of that and then I feel better! Here we have gorgeous seasons and the snow helps keep our lakes full.

This month I present, Picnic @ Seneca Lake. The Seneca Lake State Park was definitely my inspiration. We frequently grab dinner to go and go down to the park and have dinner and watch the birds and water. Many times we're there late enough and watch the sun set. What a view!

I've been trying to get a photo from the outside of the shop and it's been a challenge. Glare is not my friend! Not to mention we have tinted windows. I'm determined to get a better shot!!!

You will frequently see kits flying at Seneca Lake. And yes, that's a real kite hanging off the ceiling. Who doesn't need a cooler when you picnic?

Frisbees, huge pinwheels, and beach pails complete with sand and a shovel.

A picnic for four. Someone is still wearing their flip flips! I wonder what they're getting ready to eat. I spy a ketchup and mustard bottle so I'm thinking they're grilling up some white hots! If you're not from the area, you might not know what a white hot is. Out here we have lots of locally made sausages. Red hots are beef hot dogs. White hots are pork hot dogs.

I love mason jars. I normally use them for canning, but these are for drinking! They have metal lids to slide a straw through. Each one has a different summer gingham paper straw. Those paper straws we sell!

Where else would you see a beach ball hanging from the ceiling besides Inky Hot Mess? Oh did I mention the Chinese paper lanterns, hola hoop, or rake for the sand? I had so much fun creating this window!

Wait until you see what I have up my sleeve for September! I already have ideas and plans for the window for the rest of the year. This is so much fun!

Did You Know?

Did you know Inky Hot Mess offers Gift Certificates? We do! Gift Certificates are available in any dollar amount you need. And they're an actual certificate as in a piece of paper not a plastic card.

What can an Inky Hot Mess Gift Certificate be used for? Any product in our shop, our Workshops, and our Crops. They make excellent gifts for those who love paper crafting!

New Signage

When Inky Hot Mess first opened, we had a banner hanging in our window. We had to go through a very long process with the City for approval of our vinyl sign that is now in our windows.

Some time back I posted this photo on Instagram and asked what people thought it was. No one had any idea which was really interesting to us. Well, one person did, but that was the sign company! He's such a silly guy.

We are so happy to say that Space Vinyl did an awesome job with the vinyl. Our vinyl was printed to be the colors we selected. These colors aren't just laying around in big rolls. Each letter was printed and laminated with a UV protector so the sun doesn't destroy it.

There are several photos that are the owner and his assistant installing the sign after we closed one night.

Looks awesome! Drew did an excellent job. Space Vinyl offers much more than just store window vinyl. Check them out.
